Brontë Sisters Power Dolls

This video reimagines the Brontë sisters as action figures. It was made in 1998 by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It was intended to be part of a series of educational short videos designed to interest children in historical figures, but it was never aired.

I think the video is great. It is funny and yet still informative about the Brontë sisters and the challenges they faced. While it doesn’t include all the details on the sisters, the fun way it presents the information may invite some people to find out more about Anne, Charlotte and Emily Brontë.

The video never pretends to be the encyclopedia reference on them. It’s a cool way to imagine the feminist struggles, past and present. History isn’t just dry facts; it’s the best narrative filled with characters, romance and tragedy. It is fun to think about having toys that encourage role models like the Brontë sisters. I think they would have given my Barbies a run for their money!

I found out about this hilarious short from the blog Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.
